CSR in SMEs
One of the aspects which strikes me most about CSR is the relation with the local context. The good part about that is that this relation is not only characteristic of the big corporations. Small, medium or big enterprises are highly dependent on their surrounding environment and are always able to start their interaction with it. How to do that? In general terms, I would say internalising the externalities that are generated in the exploitation, and this is for me one of the most interesting parts of CSR. Besides, SMEs are the predominant worldwide provider of employees and pollution.
Therefore, the impact suffered by the society due the incorporation of CSR inside SMEs could mean a significant change in our reality. And how to transform this into reality? While I have been thinking of examples that are framed within the scope of SMEs I noticed that the number of them is abundant.
For instance, a company which integrates a delivery department and its main work zone is the city. If this company integrates electrical vehicles in its operating dynamic, they are going to benefit a huge number of stakeholders such as clients, employees and local community. Another example might be a gardening company. The use of natural products which have a direct impact in the environment can contribute to the stakeholder benefit.
As a conclusion, I would like to highlight the wide range of actions which SMEs can integrate in order to improve its relations with local context. These actions have to be implemented as a long term investment, otherwise the companies might feel frustrated due to the lack of results in the beginning of the investment.
