Nice weekend at Shanghai!

Ni hao!

I was looking forward writing here because I have passed a very good time this weekend and I wanted to share it with you! Well, Let’s go!

Friday night, we went out to a disco called “No 88 Club”. At the disco it was one of the unique places where I could see Chinese people behaving like Europeans because they were enjoying dancing and speaking among themselves and with us. I think, that night was a bit different for these people because that night there were “fish eyed guys” (they call us like this) dancing at the disco with them and I felt they were completely satisfied.

The next day started soon and some classmates and I decided to go to know one of the most original street market of Shanghai situated in Qibao Old Street. We could see some souvenir shops, strange food shops (they were selling little birds, turtles, some insects and so on) and animal shops, all of them built based on the traditional Chinese architecture. I felt when I was there, we were in the purest heart of the old China.

After that, we went to Shanghai World Financial Centre. Nowadays, this skyscraper is the fifth highest construction in the world, the highest building of China and the tallest visitable platform in the world. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever lived. People who were walking down the street look like ants and from this height you could realize the hugeness of this great city.

Finally, the day finished coming back in order to eat a tasty pizza in an Italian restaurant closed to the hotel and having a great rest until the next day.

Sunday also started soon as we had to go to Hangzhou, a city located near of Shanghai (just one hour by bus) where we were going to see a big lake and Buddhist temple. First, we were at the lake sailing in a little ship rounded it and seeing a lot of old and beautiful Chinese buildings. During the trip, I could feel the calmness and peace, which that place, could offer us. Then, we went to the Buddhist temple. It was incredible because we had the chance of seeing a Buddhist ceremony, which it said, gives you good luck. Finally, before of come back to Shanghai again, we stopped in a small neighbourhood of Hangzhou where it was the oldest chemist of China.

This weekend has been very special and amazing but tomorrow morning we have to start again new lectures about how to do business in China and we are going to have the best visit of the trip, Shanghai VolksWagen, so I have to go bed and have a long rest!

I hope I can write my last post before coming back to Spain!

Greetings from Shanghai!

Negotiation in China

Now at days the multinationals companies see China like a market.

What are the China Challenge?

On top: we can find manufacturing, trading, size of economy, certain markets, urbanization, GDP growth.
At the bottom: easy of doing business, transparency, GDP per capita, regulations, efficiency and innovation.

In China, the managers have to figure out the company problems while our cultura, the employees tell their problems to the company managers.

We also, have to get the “BATNA” which means best alternative to negotiation agreement.

There are some obstacles to agreement like unmet needs or interests, not their idea, losing face, pushing too fast.
And some useful tactics are ask or inputs, offer choices, involve them in the solution, involve third party.

I hope you find this information useful! :)

Tourist weekend

Saturday we visited Shanghai. It was a fantastic day.

The things that most impressed me were:

The temple of Longhua: We were fortunate because we could see one funeral with ceremony. It was exciting.

Yu Yuan Garden: I liked it very much, it was so peaceful.

We finished the day browsing by the Huang Pu river, looking The Bund and the towers illuminated.

Sunday we went to Hangzhou to visit the temple Ling Yin and Fei Lai Shan. I’ve discovered buddhist temples and I like It!! They are very beautiful and quiet, surrounded by nature.

This excursions have been the best thing of this trip at the moment.

fifth workday: Jiwo Market

Ni hao!

Today we went to the city of Jiwo, which growed by and for be the biggest provider of  low cost articles for all the world

The size of their market is very very big, it has about 70000 shops where you can find everything. For example, there are shops only for pencil sharpeners, or scissors

The market consist on 5 huge buildings, connected by some bridges, and they are crowded ever

We spent a good day visiting some shops, reaching information of how they export, buying lots of things and making photos

Tomorrow we will  rest, i expect. So bye bye!

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WEB AND RELATIONSHIPS IN CHINA

Yesterday I attended a lecture and it was really worth getting up so early. A Spaniard boy, Oscar Ramos, taught us really interesting things about entrepreneurs. We learnt about some tools to do business in today´s China. Here we can read about 400 000 000 micro blogs so these figures make us think that it works better than twitter. There are about 1,104 million of mobile´s suscriptors in China. In addition, there has been a 778% of growth of advertisement video and 314,000 million $ shopping on line. And about 96% of the traffic, visits of Chinese users are made in Chinese webs. Therefore, it is important to have a good web profile as a company to do business in China.

Next lecture was about relationship and recognition in order to retain the talent. Around a 90% of Chinese students are not prepared for working in a multinational company. In addition to this luck of prepared workers foreign companies have to compete with globalizing Chinese companies and deal with behavioral differences. For instance, Chinese people are good in learning, practical, conservative and disciplined. On the other hand, foreigners are willing to take challenges, creative, independent and passionate. One thing that makes me think how difficult can be for a company to set up in China is that you have to ask the right question until you get the right information. And if you as an employer want to engage your talent you are supposed to spend at least 5 hours a week for each of your employees and they want you a good feedback to encourage effective behavior.

Later in the afternoon, we went to visit Dibal China Division. We could see the whole process of how rolled steel coil is created.

I am looking forward to telling you such interesting things on my next post!

The study trip continues!

Good night! I continue in Shanghai and I have to tell you it has been a nice week. We have learnt many things about this complicated country and I want to sum it up in a few lines:

But we have also learnt things about the future of the country and what they are doing in oder to grow as quick as they are growing.

The teachers who are teaching us the way to do business in China and how to negotiate with these people are very professional and I regard they are doing a good job because I am learning a lot about this culture.

On the other hand, at the afternoons we have visited some enterprises and business places like ERA Solar (how I told you on Monday), Ningbo European Industrial Park, Jiwu Market (5 buildings with more than 53.000 shops) or Baosteel (a company who makes steel blocks).

In a couple of days, I have the thought of telling you about my free weekend in Shanghai and Hangzhou and the rest of visits we have to do.

Greetings from Shanghai!
