NEXT STOP: CHINA
In less than a week I will be taking off from Madrid to a further destination: Shangai. This is a great opportunity to know The East Asia and I am really looking forward to arriving.
I will not only carry a big suitcase for almost two weeks but a large list of thoughts of what I expect to find there: their traditions, the food, the character of the people from the most populous country and overall how to make business. China is one of the most important emerging economies and I hope to learn as much as possible about its knowledge in business which will increase my personal background.
In our free time after lectures and visits to different companies I would like to enjoy the city as well. The skyscrapers, the noisy streets, local markets and lots of new places I hope to know. If it is possible I would like to visit any little village in the surroundings to be in contact with the culture and people’s character closely. I think that the best way to know a new country is by the people who live there. Who knows more about the country than themselves?
So let´s go to start packing and I will tell you my own experiences there as soon as possible.
China
I know some things about China and its people, they celebrate the chinesse new year for a month, the red color means good luck for them. China has a very large population and the chinesse people live in a very small apartaments, they also eat with chopsticks.
Now talking seriously, China has become in a very strong economy and to make bussisness with them is important to know their customs and their way to negotiate to have success.
China also, is a country with a cheap workforce.
Study trip China 2013
This Saturday we are going to China.
This is my first time going to an Asian country and I’m quite nervous and eager to discover a new country and a new culture.
I think it will be a good experience because:
My classmates and I will stay for twelve days together with other students, and I’m sure it’s going to be fun!
But we are going to work too. We will attend classes, and pay visits to important companies. I hope we will learn how to do business in China in case we need it in our careers.
We will inform you during the trip!
The trip to China is about to begin
Today begins the countdown, in a few days, only 7, I will be landing in Shanghai with 80 of my mates, who are studying masters in the EOI Business School like me. I think it’s time to stop and think about everything I hope from this trip.
Probably the easiest way to make someone change, could be changing everything around him, in his environment. That’s the experience that this trip offers, an opportunity to see things differently, to understand another culture and learn things from it, to improve ourselves. Not every day we can see a country so different and distant from ours.
For the moment I think I cannot imagine yet all the things that this trip can teach to us, but I will try to comment some of these expectations:
China has a different way to do business and if you ever want to negociate with them, you must play with the same rules as them, I think there is no better opportunity to know all of this first hand and to learn how to act on these situations in the future.
China is becoming one of the engines of the global economy, able to sustain growth above 10% in his GDP, it’s supposed to be reflected in their business and how it works. I think it’s really interesting that in many of our afternoons during the trip, we are going to visit some of the largest and most important of these companies, like Volkswagen, Lenovo and many others.
But mornings will be interesting too, thanks to the Tong Ji University and the classes and conferences that we will have there, we will have the opportunity to learn about Business Management in other cultures.
I recently read a little but really interesting book written by Tsun Tzu, an ancient Chinese warrior and philosopher, “the art of war”, the oldest known written on this subject but still studied as one of the most important texts about strategy; this is an example of how the ancient Chinese knowledge and traditions are still present today, I hope to learn much more about this ancient knowledge that haven’t lost its value along the time.
But it’s not only a trip to study, it’s an opportunity to see, meet, learn and taste:
See the big skyscrapers and their views as well as the traditional historical temples.
Meet new people and improve the relationship with my mates and friends who will share the experience with me.
Discover a society of strong contrasts between tradition, technology and progress; discover that culture, the symbols and its people. Taste new foods and flavours like scorpion, snake or any other things, who knows?
Definitely an amazing experience that have to be seized.

And the countdown begins for start a new adventure … the study trip to Shanghai
Knowing how to do business there and their ancient culture is a great opportunity for my professional and personal growth.
The days that are part of this trip will be very intense, all the classes, lectures and company visits will help us to understand better the world of business, probably for some of us it will be our door to discover a venture project in the future.
Take the most advantage we can is the watchword, learn, know and have fun doing it is the mentality on this trip
SOME IDEAS ABOUT CHINA (in no particular order)
To be honest, the first thing that comes to my head if I think of Shanghai today is in the Pere Ubu LP that has released this year: Lady From Shanghai. Well, and in the amazing book Shanghai Baby and in the indispensable Orson Wells movie “The Lady from Shanghai. But if I think a little longer (I mean: Whenever I think of China in general), I have always the same questions in my mind: Are the Chinese people unique (in an emotional or mental sense)? How can we compare the Chinese with other groups? Is the Chinese population really concerned over bellicose rethoric of North Korea? How can we explain the relative academic success of immigrant Chinese students? What is the impact of learning an ographic script on the Chinese people’s way of thinking and perceiving? Are the Chinese more or less family centered than other national groups? How can we understand Chinese negotiating techniques?
It makes me happy to know that within a week I’ll be there, in a country and a city that, in some way, has been present in my life for many years as a distant idea (or just as a person: my sister is Chinese!).
China, here I go !
Seven days left to be taking off, destination China, and lots of thoughts crossing my mind. This is a great opportunity as I always wanted to organize a trip to visit this country. It was one of my desired destinations so I am very excited and really looking forward to arriving.
Everything will be different from The West, the people’s character, costums, culture, the way to do business, food and so on. I truly enjoy knowing different cultures so I hope to understand the true nature of this and also the best way to enter into relation with the Chinese people. Thanks to this study trip we will be able to see closely why it is the most important emerging economy, which will enrich our knowledge for the future.
I imagine Shanghai like a huge big city, unbelievably populated and noisy where lights are everywhere and large skyscrapers and buildings are surrounding me. I am curious to know the local markets and the rare kind of food which I can find.
As well I hope to be able to know the city and some of the surrounding villages in order to make the most of the experience.
I have just to pack and I will be ready to learn from the Chinese and China.
Hurray, off we go!
Happy Snake Year everyone!
Let your imagination fly!
I love travelling. I am that kind of person who thinks that every place, no matter how small it is, has something special and beautiful to show. My three flight tickets for the next two months can prove it! But in this time we live, is difficult to leave something to the imagination.
You have lots of videos of remote places on youtube, thousands of photographs on the internet, and google earth lets you visit every place of the world. Nowadays is too easy to “travel” all around the world with just one “click”.
But don´t misunderstand me!! I really like to use this kind of web pages. But when I decide to visit a place, it is completely forbidden to search information about it!! And even more see photographs!! That is my special way of travel. It lets my imagination fly about what I am going to visit, and once I am there, it is much more amazing. Nowadays that every corner of the world has been discovered, it is my little trick to maintain the intrigue until the end.
Next week my classmates and I are going to visit Shanghai. I know it since October, so… You can imagine which word is forbidden to search on the internet for me, don´t you?
I hope to see in China.
The 23th of Feb. begins the “Study Tryp”. Although I’m afraid of flying, I’m excited!
I’ve always loved oriental culture. Above all, I love the art of Feng Shui. I have read some books on this subject, and I relish the idea of seeing this art for myself.
Another thing I would like to know are, huge companies of Shanghai and its way of doing business. It sure is different from the Western way.
we will visit companies such as Volkswagen, Lenovo … The university in which we are going to have classes seem to be very important. I think it will be very interesting.
One of my fears is that I might not like the food.
But above all, I’m worried of spending too much in the stores!
I hope to learn a lot and do a lot of pictures.
I think it will be an incredible experience, which also share with my classmates EOI. Surely, we will return with many stories to tell!
